In Spanish cuisine a tapa is an appetiser or snack. Tapas can be combined to make a full meal, and can be cold (such as mixed olives and cheese) or hot (such as patatas bravas).
Traditional tapas dishes include: Aceitunas - olives, sometimes with a filling of anchovies or red bell pepper; Albóndigas - meatballs with sauce; Bacalao - Salted cod loin sliced very thinly, usually served with bread and tomatoes; Banderillas - cold tapas made from small food items pickled in vinegar and skewered together; Boquerones - white anchovies served in vinegar or deep fried; Chopitos - battered and fried tiny squid, also known as puntillitas; Pimientos de Padrón - small green peppers fried in olive oil; Zamburiñas - scallops served in a marinera, tomato-based sauce.
